The publicly appointed surveyor represents an essential component of the public surveying system. He is appointed to assume the following responsibilities stipulated in the surveying law and in the profession rules:
- involvement in certain tasks of land surveying
- carrying out of cadastral surveys in addition to those carried out by land registries and

public certification of facts established by surveying land establishments
Furthermore, the publicly appointed surveyor also assumes responsibilities in the whole sector of engineering surveying, geographic information, and property valuation.
